Free and low-cost Houston career counseling and coaching
These free and low-cost Houston career counseling and coaching options are offered by churches, nonprofit agencies, libraries, government agencies, colleges, and universities.
Between Jobs Ministry - Free, Christ-centered support ministry open to all job seekers. Their site says they "provide encouragement, information, networking assistance, spiritual guidance, and training sessions in a Christian setting." Located in Spring, TX.
Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. - Nonprofit United Way agency serving clients with employment challenges (older age, illiteracy, disabilities, homelessness, lack of skills, substance abuse, and at-risk behavior).
Educational Opportunity Center at Texas Southern University - Free program for low-income and/or first-generation individuals pursuing post-secondary education. Offers career counseling, financial aid assistance, admissions assistance, financial literacy information, scholarship information, GED referrals, and help with locating other resources to support post-secondary education.
Fort Bend County Libraries' Learning Express Libraries - An online resource that provides interactive practice exams for a variety of studies, from elementary grades to college, as well as tutorials that help adults improve computer skills, create job search materials, or prepare for career exams.
Goodwill Houston Job Connection Resources - Training, education and job-related services to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
Hire Network Texas - Directory of resources for job seekers with specific obstacles to employment.
Houston Area Urban League - Offers Workforce Orientation workshop for job search readiness and a Job Search Club for active job seekers.
Houston Community College - Assessment, career counseling, and personal counseling for Houston Community College students.
Jewish Family Service - Free job search assistance and employment workshops. Low-cost counseling also available.
Lone Star College Career Services - Career counseling for Lone Star College students and alumni.
Rice University Center for Career Development - Career counseling for Rice University students and alumni.
Search Homeless Services - Agency that works to engage, stabilize, educate, employ and house individuals and families who are homeless.
Texas Workforce - State of Texas government agency charged with overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers of Texas; Texas Workforce Centers are located throughout the Houston area (their website has a zip code search feature).
The Montrose Center - Specializing in counseling with LGBT clients. Offers a job search support group.
The WorkFaith Connection - Nonprofit organization that helps men and women begin productive lives through the gift of work. Offers an eight-day job readiness workshop.
University of Houston-Clear Lake, Career Services - Full range of career development services for UH-Clear Lake students and alumni. In person services in Clear Lake and online services via the website.
University of Houston-Downtown, Career Center - Assistance with career planning and job search for UH-Downtown students and alumni.
University of St. Thomas Career Development Center - Serves students and alumni with their vocational and career learning.
